Our History

K.W. REESE, Inc. was founded in 1972 by Kirby W. Reese to clear power line right of way for a utility contractor. This contract work soon turned into regular distribution line maintenance consisting primarily of trimming trees on a three to five year cycle.

In the early 1980s, REESE was recruited by Conrail for railroad right-of-way maintenance. During this period, we were asked to get into track construction and track maintenance, a service which expanded through the late 1980s and continues to be a large part of our business.

In the 1990s, increasing environmental awareness of wetlands, erosion, and sedimentation control led to a new opportunity: temporary access roads and mats.

Still considered an emerging market today, the renting and installation of mats for temporary access roads is a service in which REESE has accumulated two decades of experience. We prefer to say that we provide temporary access systems, a concept which goes far beyond the mere renting of wood or composite mats. We prepare the road bed, transport and install the mats, then when the customer’s project is done, take everything up and reseed and restore the area to its original condition.

Mercersburg, PA-based KW REESE. Inc. remains family owned and operated to this day. Company President Jeffrey A. Reese, son of founder Kirby W. Reese, runs the company, ably assisted by family members and staff.
